White Island Crater, New Zealand

The White Island Crater is an active andesite stratovolcano located in New Zealand.  It is the most active cone volcano and has been built up by continuous volcanic activity over the past 150,000 years.  The nearest mainland towns are Whakatane and Tauranga. Since James Cook discovered the White Island in 1769, it has been in a near continuous stage of smoking.
