25 Volcanic Craters Around the World

Kerid Crater Lake, Iceland

Kerid Crater Lake is a volcanic crater located in the Grimsnes area in south Iceland, on the popular tourist route known as the Golden Circle.  It is one of the several crater lakes in the area known as Iceland’s Western Volcanic Zone. Volcanologists originally believed it was formed by a huge volcanic explosion but it is now believed that Kerid was a cone volcano which erupted and emptied its magma reserve.
