Flamethrower

The first flamethrower or the Greek Fire was an inflammable weapon developed c. 672 and used by the Eastern Roman Byzantine Empire. They typically used it in naval battles to great effect, as it could continue burning while floating on water. Its contribution to the battlefield was immense because it helped the empire survive Arab invasions during the seventh and eighth centuries.
