Poison Dart Frog

The Poison Dart Frog is also known as the Poison Arrow Frog that belongs to the family Dendrobatidae which are native to tropical Central and South America. They are diurnal and often have brightly colored bodies. The bright coloration is correlated with the toxicity of the brightly colored species, making these species aposematic. They are called dart frogs due to the Amerindians’ indigenous use of toxic secretions to poison the tips of blowdarts. They are endemic to humid, tropical environments of Central and South America. They are usually found in rainforests.
