Smalltooth Sawfish

The Smalltooth Sawfish belongs to the family of Pristidae and also known as the wide fish. They are extremely vulnerable to overexploitation because of their propensity for entanglement in nets, their restricted habitats and low rate population growth. The many teeth of a sawfish’s saw are not actually teeth but rather some special types of scales known as dermal denticles which they use as a defense mechanism. The species is lsted as critically endangered by the IUCN Red List.
