Hashima Island – Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan

Hashima Island is an abandoned island lying about 15 kilometers from the City if Nagasaki, Southern Japan.  It is one of 505 uninhabited islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. The island was known for its undersea coal mines which operated during the industrialization of Japan. Battleship Island is an English translation of the Japanese nickname for Hashima Island. Today the buildings are empty and the population is zero.
